MONDO GALERIA presents Ibicenco IX “Eternal” as the ninth edition of their annual exhibit curated by Diego Alonso and Alexeja Pozzoni. (DiegoandAlexeja)

This exhibition was born in 2015 as a tribute to an ibizencan way of being, behaving and thinking, which is not exclusive to the Island of Ibiza, but with the time it has transcended and became an internationally understood state of Being.

This year, under the theme “Eternal” the curatorial proposal plays with memory, tradition and the presence of the past. For this goal, they present a never seen before collection of original photographs of Ibiza in the 1940s printed from negatives which were found randomly in a dusty suitcase at the Rastro Madrid flee-market. 

Ibicenco exhibit along the years has taken place in different iconic locations of the island, as a tribute to Ibiza´s architecture and to contrast it with contemporary art. The chosen space for this years installation is the ancient “Trull” (olive press) of Balafia, as courtesy of Can Quince Hotel surrounded by the unique 13th century citadel with its defence towers and its strategic location on the center of the Island, a short distance from San Lorenzo. The Poblet de Balafia is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

During the opening of the show the visitors will enjoy performances of sound and poetry related to the autochthonous culture, as well as experimental gastronomy connected to the past and present of the Pityusic Islands.
